Hello my beautiful people,
It has been a while since I wrote an update. The past few weeks I have become an expert at making sourdough bread as I made 2 loaves in one go, both being delicious. I gave one to the Sekani teachers/Elders in the school. It was a success; they ate it all!
The colors are changing on the tress and the temperature is becoming quite cooler, I can see my breath on some days. We also see the snow arriving on the mountains. I often take pictures of the same mountains on my way to work as they are always changing. They are never the same.
I discovered a new path along the water's edge with beautiful views. I went with my cousin and her being younger and a true Canadian (born and raised here), I let her go first. In the hopes that she would protect me if we came across a bear or a grizzly. Do not worry, I had bear spray for us. Never go anywhere without it.
On the "beach" by the reservoir, we saw some big piles of driftwood which looked like huge piles for making bonfires. In reality, they actually are for big bon fires but not as a social thing but rather more to burn all the driftwood that washes up onto our shores.
There were some birthdays happening in September so we decided to do a potluck to celebrate birthdays with a bonfire. A colleague made a Tiramisu Bday cake- layered crepes. It was my first time seeing this type of Tiramisu. It was good.
The wild horses come and go, sometimes they even roll on the ground, perhaps they are trying to scratch their backs? I fed one a carrot, soon after they were all coming galloping towards me for their carrot. Sadly, I only had one. Next time, I will make sure to have one for each of them.
We went for a lovely walk to a swamp with the Grade 5/6 class. It is about a 40mn walk. It was a beautiful little trail in the woods. I can tell you; I feel a lot safer with a bunch of kids hiking with me than just an adult or 2. The way they scream, yell and are so loud, any wildlife that was previously there is gone! They are great warnings to the wildlife!
I also was part of the Equinox event for the Grade 3/4 class. The teacher had the kids make apple crisp, soups and bannock (with the elders). It was a wonderful experience to be part of this festivity. We gathered around a fire to open the festivity and everyone shared something they were grateful for. Then we all sat at a table enjoying the food we had made in the morning with the kids.
Last weekend, some teachers decided to go to Prince George. I stayed behind and with the teachers that stayed behind, we had a social potluck and games night. We ate delicious pulled pork and home-made buns along with cake and mini donuts. It was delicious and it was such a nice weekend having the place to myself.
This past weekend was Thanksgiving which is redefined as Friendsgiving, on Saturday night we had a FEAST. The feast had: mash potatoes, sweet potatoes mash with marshmallows on top, Caesar Salad, perogies (not home-made), stuffing, buns, turkey, gravy, pumpkin pie, apple pie and brownies. All home-made except the perogies. It was AMAZING!!! We played a fun card game too. It has been a delicious weekend!
My friend Amaka Eneh is a watercolor artist. She has taken some photographs I gave her and painted them. Here they are below. You can follow her art on Instagram @ribbon_and_flame. There is a picture of "Blue Lake" and a picture of the sunset.

Enjoy the pictures ...
